the short, honest version

Terms, without the theatre.

The rules for using Gepetel, written to be read. It's free, it's run by one person, and it occasionally gets things wrong — here's what that means for you.

The short version

Gepetel is a WhatsApp bot that behaves like a member of your group chat. Anyone can add it, it is free, and you can remove it at any time. Use it for ordinary things, don't use it to harm people, and don't bet anything important on what it says without checking. That is genuinely most of it — the rest is detail.

Who you're dealing with

Gepetel is built and run by one person in Romania, not a company. It is an independent project: it is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to WhatsApp or Meta, and it isn't an official WhatsApp product. It reaches WhatsApp the same way any other connected client does.

To get in touch, ask Gepetel in any chat to pass a message to its creator. It will.

Using it

  • You need to be old enough to use WhatsApp where you live, and to follow WhatsApp's own terms while you're there.
  • Adding Gepetel to a group affects everyone in it. Whoever adds it should be comfortable telling the group it's there — it introduces itself, but a heads-up is the decent thing.
  • Anyone in a group can remove Gepetel, and anyone in a group can connect or disconnect an outside service for that group. That is deliberate: a group is a group, not an account with an owner.
  • Gepetel is for people using it as people. Don't wire it into another system, resell access to it, or run it as infrastructure for something else.

What it costs

Nothing. Every group gets a daily message allowance at no charge, and all the features are included.

A chatty group that hits its cap can bump the limit once, and that extension is currently given free — the checkout page asks for card details it never reads and never sends anywhere, and no payment is taken. If that ever changes, you will be told plainly and asked before anything is charged. Nothing here creates a subscription, and there is nothing to cancel.

What you shouldn't do with it

  • Anything illegal, or anything meant to harass, threaten, defame, or deceive someone.
  • Spam: mass messaging, sending to people who didn't ask to hear from it, or using it to reach strangers at scale.
  • Trying to pull out credentials, tokens, or another group's data — a service connected to one group is never available in another, and attempting to get around that is a misuse of it.
  • Connecting an account or service you don't have the right to connect.
  • Hammering it: scripted traffic, deliberate overload, or anything designed to break it for everyone else.

If a group does any of this, Gepetel can be removed from it and its access ended, without notice.

It will get things wrong

Gepetel is built on AI models, and AI models make confident mistakes. It can misread a message, invent a detail, mistime a reminder, or summarise something inaccurately. Treat what it says the way you'd treat a helpful friend who is sometimes wrong.

Don't rely on it for medical, legal, financial, or safety decisions. Check anything that matters before you act on it. What you do with what it produces — text, images, summaries, reminders — is on you.

Outside services you connect

When a group connects something like Trello, Jira or Notion, Gepetel acts on that group's behalf inside that service. Your relationship with that service is still yours and governed by their terms; Gepetel is not responsible for what it does, what it charges, or what it does with your data there.

A connection lives in exactly one chat, is never used anywhere else, and is deleted the moment anyone in that chat disconnects it. How the login itself is stored is described on the privacy page.

When it's not there

Gepetel runs on a small computer in a flat, not a data centre. It goes down sometimes, it gets restarted, features change, and it may one day stop entirely. It's offered as it is, with no guarantee that it's available, correct, or that it'll still be here next month.

So: don't build anything you depend on around it, and keep anything important somewhere that isn't a group chat.

Where responsibility ends

Because this is a free service run by one person, it comes with no warranty of any kind, and liability for any loss arising from using it — lost time, lost data, a decision made on something it got wrong — is excluded as far as the law allows.

Nothing here takes away rights you have that can't be signed away. If you're a consumer in the EU, your statutory rights stand regardless of anything on this page.

Changes, and the law

These terms can change; the current version always lives at this address, with the date below. If something material changes — a charge, in particular — it will be said clearly rather than quietly edited in.

Romanian law applies, and the courts of Romania have jurisdiction, except where consumer law gives you the right to your own local courts.

Plain language on purpose. This page is the agreement between you and whoever runs Gepetel, but it isn't legal advice. Questions? Ask Gepetel in a chat to forward a note to its creator.
